Mariem Hassan was the most important singer of Sahrawi popular music, considered a symbol of that country in exile. Suffering from an irreversible illness, she retired to the desert, to an area liberated by the Sahrawis where she spent her childhood. It was then that she composed the song ‘La Despedida’ (The Farewell) and asked the film crew to shoot her last testimony.
